Mumbai roars , MNIK sinks the Sena

As Marathi Manoos kicked sena in its guts , the message is loud and clear. The common man of India will no longer be intimidated/fooled in by parties trying to disguise hooliganism with politics/patriotism/nationalism . The party which tried its best to use democratic tolerance to strangle democracy in the country and the state has been given a fitting response by this simple act of maharastrians of watching the Khan movie.

I was shocked when I saw a person who was once speaker of Lok Sabha i.e presiding office of the highest democratic insitution of India ,Mr Manohar Joshi supporting such moves to force khan to apologise .And as Maha Govt seemed to be dithering before the possibilities of violence, everything seems lost . And at this time , it was the common man who took upon him to show to the rest of world how deeply the values of democracy and respect for individual views are embedded into the Indian psyche.

This simple act will go a long way in strengthening the Indian democracy and justifying all the sacrifices which were made in order to ensure individual freedom in the country ..

Hats off to the Common Man ! Hats off to the Mumbaikars !!

Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo

Well I am in India and the nation celebrated it's 60th Republic Day with the traditional fervor :
- India to deploy Trishul Missiles
- Read a book about the Nov 26 2008 terror attack in Mumbai
- Re-reading the books India After Gandhi and Shantaram
- Maha CM tried to make Marathi as a compulsory language for taxi drivers in Mumbai
- Govt has just announced the list of Padma Awards winner
- AP is burning because of the Telanagana issue
- Prices are going up and the govt is working very creatively to look on whom to blame.
- IPL people snubbed the Pak
- SK was forced to go Delhi on 26th in spite of it being a holiday

And with all these thoughts creating a muddle in my mind i logged into the internet and i saw the news on IBN live about Naya Mile Sura and how it had became a Film industry Integration Program rather than a national integration program .. I checked it to see Big B and Big B's Family telling us about how their sur met ... I logged on to orkut and saw each and every person Jai Hind'ing each other ..

And so I thot why not join the crowd and do something similar .. But then the familiar urge of doing something different than the rest of crowd raised it's head and I thot of putting in the Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo Song.

And while I was searching on You Tube for this Song , i thot why not listen to this Song once before pasting it over there.. Maybe I can come up with something more different than the rest.

And as i listened to the Song ,the first thought in my mind was Nehru had cried on listening to this Song and the cynic in me responded that he had to cry after what happened to his China policy ...

And as the Song progressed , i started recalling the words of this great song ..

Koi Sikh Koi Jatt Maratha
Koi Gurka Koi Madrasi
Sarhad pe Marne Vaala
Har Veer Tha Bharatwasi..

Jo Khoon Girra Parvat pe
Voh Khoon thaa Hindustani

And as the words hit, i realized the futility of all the small things for which we are fighting amongst ourselves. If we take a look at the history of this piece of land, India as a one single country, as a nation never existed. But somehow the idea of a one single nation for the teeming humanity living in Indian Sub-continent was born and nurtured. And lot of sacrifices were made in order to ensure that this nation survives.

No Going Back !!

"Tell me Healing Martha" I said softly."How did we come to be walking down this road and not notice where our steps were leading? When did we turn to this path?"

"It matters not how or when, old friend. We are set on the path now and now there is no going back."

From the book Owl Killers

Life is like that. There is no ctrl-z. One impulsive decision , one impulsive moment can change everything , destroy universe or create new universe( as in Poelo Coelho's The Winner Stands Alone ). That moment defines the rest of your life. Even if you don't want to follow the path defined by the moment , you might have to keep going on that path just because of that particular moment .

It doesn't makes sense to feel guilty or sorry about that moment. Just make best use of the path on which one is treading.

May-17th : Now as I look back ( with uninformed insights from lot of other people ) , I am convinced that I did the right thing by controlling my self control and allowing my impulsiveness to take driver's seat. I had spent lot of my hours worrying about the fairness of that decision. The decision which I took at that instant was a correct decision and among the best decisions I ever took.I know ,It would and it did made me dirty as a pig rolling about in a lake of mud but then u cannot take care of the mess without becoming dirty .

Links Galore

Once in a while, while surfing through the vast ocean of world wide web , you come across something which seems different ... Just a treasure spot for all the different things on internet ..

Who is a Professional? First and foremost a professional is a person who can self-certify completion of a task and can work unsupervised. If somebody else is required to certify that this task needs a particular standard then you are not a professional. This is a very small, but very subtle and important, distinction between being competent and being a professional.

Remove Common Misconceptions About Hinduism - Came across this excellent link which clears most of the misconceptions about Hinduism. And yes Hinduism do supports my way of thinking..

Another one for me

My list of conquests:
- Maharashtra
- West Bengal
- Rajasthan
- Gujurat
- Orissa
- Delhi
- Punjab
- Karnataka
- Kerala

Another indian state in my pouch. This time it was Punjab . I met a desi fellow in a car shop near my house and he on his own asked me whether I was from Punjab :).

This came after KJ's wife asked me whether I was from Gujurat . But i have been identified as Gujju before .

That reminds me of the time , I was sitting with KJ gorging on some Indian sweets . We were comparing our experiences in India when we make our yearly visits and as I was cribbing about the 4 hrs i spend reaching my house from the airport. He asks me why I had gone to kerala during my India visit, I replied that my parents stay over there to which he asks whether my Dad is working in Kerala to which I replied Dad has retired and he has got a house in kerala to which he replies why did my parents had a house in Kerala instead of their *native* place to which I replied , our native place is Kerala. And what followed was a stunned expression of KJ's face. After a minute of silence where I imagined him to be analyzing and churning on the recent piece of information given by me. He asked me whether I was playing some trick on him. As i was pondering on whether to show him my passport or the birth certificate , HP and his Mrs came by and KJ popped the question to them .

Oct082009-

Few days back I was talking to one of my friends and she was not willing to believe that I was a mallu ... Well the magic is still there ;)
